Can you recall the first time you had a personal encounter with God? Can you recall when you knew there was a God that loved you for who you were and had a realization of Him having a plan for your life even before you were born?

King David had such an epiphany, and we see it recorded in Psalm 139. David begins with realizing that the Lord is interested in every aspect of His life. David speaks of God even knowing when David sits and when he gets up. David goes on to speak of how God knows what he is thinking and what he is going to say before he speaks it.

David then ponders upon God’s desire to be with him wherever he goes. In verse 13, David realizes that God had knitted him while he was still in his mother’s womb. Think about how much God cares for all of us, He knitted us, formed us, and made us who we are before we were even born. This should, like David, humble us greatly.

Keeping all of this in mind I go to verse 14, “I will give thanks to You, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made; Wonderful are Your works, And my soul knows it very well.” As David recalls and thinks about what the Lord means to him, he cannot help but be thankful. He is thankful because he realizes that he is not some accident or afterthought. No, the God of all creation took the time and care to form David, to design him, and to allow him to have life. This realization brings a sense of awe and wonderment to the heart of David.

As I was reading this text, I thought back to when I was a little guy and had a sense of God watching over me and having a special plan for me. Now it helped that I was raised in church for the most part and had godly grandparents who made sure I knew that God loved me and that Jesus died for me.

That brings me to the challenge. Do you realize that the same God that formed David formed you? That He watches you and knows your inner thoughts and desires? My friends, may I remind you that you too have been fearfully and wonderfully made. No matter where you are this day God, the Great I AM, is right there with you. You are not an accident. You were made with great love and great purpose.

So, as David gave thanks and praise to his God for such a wonderful gift, shouldn’t we also humble ourselves in thanksgiving for this wonderful gift we call life and the opportunity to spend eternity together with Him? You are amazing because God made you and anything our God does is amazing and wonderful.
