If you watch the news or pay attention to politics, you see that there has been a great loss of wisdom in our nation. We live in a country with many universities and places to pursue higher education, yet there is still one thing that has become less and less valued: wisdom.
There is a small book in the Old Testament called Ecclesiastes, and in it we read of great wisdom that, sadly, man has forgotten. The author, King Solomon, might have been the wisest man to ever live on this planet. There are so many lessons taught in this book that, if we would read and listen would help us to escape many problems in our lives. Throughout this wonderful book, we read about how to treat the person you love, how to raise children, and how to treat others. In this book are answers to a lot of what our nation has forgotten.
We look around and see violence in every major city in America, and in most smaller cities. There is one answer given to us in the book of Ecclesiastes that would help a lot in this regard. In chapter 8:11, “Because the sentence against an evil deed is not executed quickly, therefore the hearts of the sons of men among them are given fully to do evil.” This word does not need to be unpacked; we read and can acknowledge the truth of this sentence. If, as a society, we do not carry out justice promptly, if we just turn a blind eye to the evil deeds that happen around us, we embolden more evil to happen. This is what we call a duh, yet our society has become very ignorant of this truth, and society pays the price.
There is so much everyday wisdom in this book; if we read it and take it to heart, it would save us from a lot of heartache. I challenge all of us to take time to dust off the book of Ecclesiastes and dive deep into its wisdom. Through this book, the Holy Spirit will show us the mistakes of our past and why things happened the way they did, but more importantly, it will help grow us in our wisdom so that we would not fall into the traps of the evil one who wants to steal, kill, and destroy every aspect of our lives. To find this wonderful book, go to the book of Proverbs and turn the pages to the next book, and there it is.
Remember, the Lord does not leave us to operate out of our own wisdom, but we can tap into godly wisdom that will protect and enrich our lives.
