When we are young, we have no understanding of how cruel and harsh this life can be. We soon learn that nothing in this world is fair. The world we live in soon turns against us, crashing hopes and dreams. None of us are immune to this truth. When the storms come, and they will come, they crash hard upon us; it seems as though the storm takes away any happiness we thought we had.
Yet, for those of us who have placed our trust in Jesus, the Son of the Living God, the One who takes away the sin of the world, we have a blessed hope.
The truth is that Jesus said that He would never leave us, nor forsake us, no matter the storm. I bring this message to remind us all that no matter how we feel, we are not alone in the fight. I would take you to the words of the writer of Hebrews.
Hebrews 4:14-15, “Therefore, since we have a great high priest who has passed through the heavens, Jesus the Son of God, let us hold fast our confession. For we do not have a high priest who cannot sympathize with our weakness, but One who has been tempted in all things as we are, yet without sin.” Yes, when darkness closes in around us, we must remember that Christ has already passed through that valley. It might be a temptation we just can’t seem to overcome; Jesus has been there. When our hearts are broken because of tragedy and hardships, Jesus has been there. He has been tempted horribly as we have, and He has wept over the tomb where His friend lay. Jesus understands our pain.
We have a choice when we come to such a point in our lives, we can give up on our faith, we can walk away from the One who loves us, or we could do as verse 16 commands us to do, “Therefore let us draw near with confidence to the throne of grace, so that we may receive mercy and find grace to help in time of need.” This is our choice: to walk away, or to walk nearer to the throne of grace. I will tell you that neither one is easy, but one path will lead us to everlasting peace and the other to everlasting anguish and pain. I want you to know that I understand your pain and the hurt many of you feel, but more importantly, your God knows even better, and He has the answer that will bring mercy to our souls.
Today, if you are at that crossroad and you feel like throwing in the towel on your faith, I implore you to not walk away but run to the One that can heal your soul and bring you peace.
