We look around the world, and we see wars and rumors of wars. In just about every case, it is hard to even know what victory will look like in these conflicts. How will we know who won? When it comes to the war on terror, the question is, how do you achieve victory over a demonic ideology that only has one goal: destruction and death? This ideology is the Hydra, you cut off one head, and two more pop up. Then we see the war in Ukraine, the forces of a demonic dictator whose only desire is conquest and destruction. His only desire is to take what does not belong to him. In the middle of all these conflicts are innocent people who just want to live life.

Now, you may notice that I use the word demonic in both cases. Why would I use such a description? Because the Bible says that the devil comes to steal, kill, and destroy. So, it is evident that all these horrific acts come from only one source.

What does that have to do with us? I’m glad you asked this question. Because we, too, are in a war, and the enemy is always pounding at our gates. We see and feel the attack against us, our families, and our church. We all realize this, we all feel this attack, and sometimes it can be overwhelming. But this devotion reminds us all that the enemy cannot destroy us, nor can he have victory over us who are followers of Jesus Christ, for we have already won the victory through Him. Let me share with you a victory chant given to us by the Holy Spirit in Psalm 20:6-8, “Now I know that the Lord saves His anointed; He will answer him from His holy heaven With the saving strength of His right hand. Some boast in chariots and some in horses, But we will boast in the name of the Lord, our God. They have bowed down and fallen, But we have risen and stood upright.”

This does not diminish the truth that the battle is real and the enemy is ruthless, but what is also true is that we have been given victory. I love what the warriors of Leonidas told the Persians. The Persians said that their arrows would be so many that they would block out the sun, to which Leonidas’ men replied, “Then we will fight in the shade.” Let that be in the heart of every follower of Christ; let us not walk this path in fear, for we have already been promised victory over our enemy.   The enemy may prowl around like a roaring lion, but remember, his fangs have been pulled, and so all he can do is just make noise. So, onward Christian soldier, lift His banner high, for we fight for the Lion of the tribe of Judah, and victory is already ours.
