It has been said that I am competitive. I’m not sure I am, although I understand that this statement is subjective. What one considers competitive to some, to others, may just be a time of having fun. I do not see myself as one who gets too terribly worked up about losing at playing games. I do get very competitive when it comes to the spiritual aspects of life. A life and death struggle is going on around us, and in this race, there is no room for second place.

When we come to know Jesus as Savior and Lord, the Bible tells us that we are free from sin and death. This truth is an eternal death of sin for the follower of Christ, and the beautiful thing is that this truth is not based upon our ability to be good people. It is and always has been based upon the miraculous power of the blood of Christ that was shed upon the cross for the sins of all of mankind. Bottom line, there is complete and utter victory over sin and death through Jesus, through His sacrificial act upon that cross.

Let me remind you of what the Lord has to say about this. In Romans 8:37-39, “But in all these things we overwhelmingly conquer through Him who loved us. 38 For I am convinced that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor things present, nor things to come, nor powers, 39 nor height, nor depth, nor any other created thing, will be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.” What breaks my heart is that way too many Christians do not fully grasp the amazing power behind this text. We forget that we are not just victorious, but we overwhelmingly conquer through Christ. This means that the victory over sin and death wasn’t even close when we received Jesus. Through Him, nothing can stand in our way. We receive a list of those things that attempt to steal our lives, even our salvation; not death, nor life, no angel, or evil entity, not what we face today, nor what we face tomorrow. None of these things can separate us from the love of Christ.

So, we are not barely victorious, no, the Lord came, He saw, and He whipped all that would separate us from Him. I like that, I like that a lot. The next time you begin to doubt the Lord’s love or His power to save, get to this text and read it over and over again. Then you must decide whether you believe this or not. Last time I checked, the Lord does not lie. Then all of this must be true, and if this is true, then we do not need to worry or be afraid of all that is going on around us.

Let’s celebrate being victorious through Jesus. Let us raise once again the banner of Christ and shout out our victory cry.
