As parents, we send our children to school so that they can get an education. Today, there is pressure to make sure those same children go to some sort of secondary education, usually college. We recognize that without that degree, the opportunity to have a good career in the field they desire puts them at a great disadvantage.

Sadly, there is a part of this equation in their lives that is missing, and that is wisdom. Sending our young ones to secondary school without the ability to think critically and to evaluate foolishness from wisdom is dangerous. I’m afraid that if we are not careful, we will have a community with intelligence but no wisdom, or some may call it common sense. This is why we can no longer explain the difference between a man and a woman, and the wisdom of parenting has escaped us as well. How do we find wisdom, and why is our society so out of whack? Proverbs 1:7 explains this to us very well. “The fear of the Lord is the beginning of knowledge; Fools despise wisdom and instruction.” We as a people have lost our fear of God. This is why things are spiraling out of control, and we will never have things in balance until we, as a people, begin to fear the God of creation. I’m afraid that our nation, including even Jesus followers, thinks that electing the right person will fix all our issues. Let me remind us all that no man can fix what ails society.

If we just take a minute and look back at those who came before us, and we recognize a great nation that stood for what is right and never glorified sin, there is one simple truth: there was a fear of God. Sundays were a day set apart, even if people did not go to church; everything was closed. But today, Sunday, has just become another day of the week. Going to the house of God to worship is secondary at best for a lot of those who claim to be Christians. There are some churches today that have diluted the fear of God and have made God some kind of buddy who just wants what is best for us.

The Bible is very clear that God does not change; He is the same One who has condemned sin and will bring justice to those who choose to love the world rather than this God. So, if we ever want to see our nation turn around, it isn’t about more education; it is about more wisdom, and this wisdom will only come when man decides to fear and follow the One True God.
