As a follower of Jesus who wants to share the good news of salvation, I must establish several things. First, the need for salvation. It is hard for many people to understand what sin is and what it does to us. We live in a world where just about everything is fair game, and the standard for morality has steadily dropped lower and lower. So, when we talk about lying, stealing, and using the Lord’s name in vain, most people do not see this as any big deal because just about everyone does it, and just about everyone accepts it. Sin no longer means anything to most people, so we no longer blush or are embarrassed about immorality and sins against a Holy God. The question then becomes, why is salvation needed?

The second need is for people to understand what they need salvation from. Since sin is irrelevant, there is no need to be afraid of hell. Everyone wants to believe in heaven, and most think that they are going there just because they think that they are a good person. There is no understanding of an eternal punishment away from God, and therefore an eternal punishment away from love.

The last thing is the most important, and that is to know the only One who can bring us salvation from sin and hell. Fewer people are coming to the truth of who Jesus is and what He has done for mankind. If lost people would just seek truth for once, they too would be like the people of Jerusalem the day Christ rode in on a colt. Matthew 21:9-11, “The crowds going ahead of Him, and those who followed, were shouting, 'Hosanna to the Son of David; Blessed is He who comes in the name of the Lord; Hosanna in the highest!” 10 When He had entered Jerusalem, all the city was stirred, saying, “Who is this?” 11 And the crowds were saying, “This is the prophet Jesus, from Nazareth in Galilee.” Who is this Jesus? He is God in flesh, who chose to dwell with man for 33 years. Jesus is the One who gave His life upon a cross, to shed His blood so that all who would choose to accept His forgiveness will be saved.

There will be many who will be offended by this truth, but so be it, for the truth and only the truth shall set us free. Who is this Jesus? He is the King of all kings. He is the way, the truth, and the life. He is the Great Shepherd, the water that brings eternal life. He is the only hope for all of mankind that we would not die in our sins but shall inherit eternal life through His amazing sacrifice. It is through His blood we are healed. This is who Jesus is.
