In a world that is crowded and busy, some wonder if anyone sees them. Does anybody even care if they exist? This is a terrible feeling; it brings about loneliness and great depression. Everyone wants to be seen, heard, and valued. Some may even ask the question, if they disappeared, would anyone even notice?
This is a horrible place to be, and there are many who feel this way. Sadly, many will look in all the wrong places to try and find worth and, more importantly, to feel loved. When Jesus came to earth, He came for different purposes. One of course was to die for all of man’s sins so that we may experience eternal life. Yet, there is another wonderful purpose for the coming of the Christ, and that was to show man who God the Father really was and is.
There was this idea that God created and then just left us to our own devices. That God was a being that would grow angry at man and have them destroyed if they did not straighten up. But then came Jesus. I want us to look at a very simple verse, but it is something wonderful, a beautiful lesson many need to hear. John 1:48, “Nathanael *said to Him, “How do You know me?” Jesus answered and said to him, “Before Philip called you, when you were under the fig tree, I saw you.” Nathaniel was a man minding his own business when the Lord came to him. Jesus spoke of Nathaniel’s character and honesty in the previous verse. This brings us to verse 48 and Nathaniel’s reaction to this statement. “How do you know me?” We need to grab hold of what Jesus says here. Before Philip called you, I saw YOU.
Jesus saw Nathaniel, knew exactly where he was, and knew exactly who he was. This is a truth meant for all of us. I come to you in this devotion to remind you that Jesus sees you and knows exactly where you are. You have not been misplaced or lost. Even when we wander to places we shouldn’t be, Jesus sees us. In the loneliness of the night, when you feel alone, Jesus sees you. Even when we do things that go against His will, He sees us.
That’s all. I just wanted to say to all who would listen, Jesus sees you. He knows you and loves you. So, if you are in that place where you feel all alone, you have the eyes of Almighty God gazing upon you. Call to Him, ask Him to reveal Himself to you in the way you need. Remember, He sees you. He did not leave us; in fact, He wants to have a personal relationship with you. That is our Jesus and our God.
